Then, take a drive or stroll through Jamestown, the colonial heart of the city, where you’ll see the historic Ussher and James Forts, built by the Dutch (1650) and British (1673), along with the iconic Lighthouse that once guided ships into Accra’s harbor.
Next, visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Museum, honoring Ghana’s first post-independence President, followed by a stop at the Independence Arch and the historic Osu Christiansborg Castle.
Experience Ghana’s artistic traditions at Nungua, where craftsmen create fantasy coffins shaped like fish, cars, and more—symbolizing the professions of the departed. After lunch, immerse yourself in local creativity at the Arts and Craft Market, where treasures from across Ghana and West Africa await.

-After breakfast, check out and depart Accra via the forest belt to Kumasi, the seat of the Ashanti Empire, which was built on a similar basis as the Dahomey Empire, i.e., through wars. Upon arrival, visit the Cultural Center, featuring the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of brass makers, potters, drum carvers, and batik makers. Then, take a tour of the Ashanti craft villages to observe craftsmen at work and purchase souvenir gift items. These villages include Ahwiaa, where woodcarvers produce Ashanti stools, fertility dolls, and walking sticks; Ntonso, where Adinkra cloth is processed; and Bonwire, where Kente cloth is woven. Kente, a very colorful fabric, is traditionally worn on festive and significant occasions such as marriage ceremonies and child naming ceremonies.

After breakfast, depart from Kumasi to Elmina en route visit to Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park.
Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park was one of the largest slave markets for gathering people to sell into slavery during the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is especially worth seeing as a prelude to viewing Cape Coast salve castle since you will be following the route taken by the ancestors of many African Americans.
Then, step back in time at Cape Coast Castle, built in 1667 by the Swedes and later controlled by the British. A key site of the transatlantic slave trade, this UNESCO World Heritage Site houses the West African Historical Museum. The guide will take you through the governor’s quarters, condemned cells, and the ‘Door of Return’.
